Healing is at the core of every practice available at ZenLife – including Restorative Yoga! Here in Queen Creek, we offer this calm, stress-relieving yoga for your benefit. Let’s look at this particular rejuvenating practice and how it can promote wellness in your life!
Simply put, it’s a restful practice that focuses on slowing down and opening your body through a series of passive stretches. Restorative yoga is especially helpful in promoting deep relaxation.
This practice encourages you to focus on your breath as you hold a yoga position with help from props like blocks, blankets, and bolsters. This enables you to nearly effortlessly hold asanas and open up your body gradually. As your body enters a state of deep relaxation, your mind can also relax, allowing tension to be released.
Restorative yoga is very different from most other styles of yoga, providing a unique experience. The pace is very slow – you may only perform a few postures throughout the entire class!
The slow pace allows you to bring awareness to any sensations or thoughts you have throughout the practice. Through this, you may reach a deep, healing, meditative state of awareness.
Restorative Yoga includes many of the same benefits meditation offers, such as:
It also provides the body with:
Anyone can participate and benefit from this practice, no matter your ability level. We strongly encourage those who are interested in the amazing healing effects listed above to come give it a try! A qualified instructor will guide you through the entire class.
The mild nature of restorative yoga makes it a friendly practice for most, but do keep in mind any injuries or health conditions that could be aggravated by a yoga practice. Talk to your doctor if you are unsure!
Bring your own mat to class if you have one. ZenLife has extra mats to rent if you don’t!
You can expect your instructor to describe each pose at the beginning of class and explain which props you’ll need. Then, they’ll play soft music and dim the lights to help participants relax during the session. Once you’ve set up with your props and have settled into a pose, you can expect to remain in that position for a period of time.
Focus on your breathing and relax your body into position. You may even fall asleep — and that’s okay! That merely means you’ve entered a state of deep relaxation.
When the session is over, you should feel open and refreshed. Some people may feel a little sore the next day, especially if their bodies aren’t used to the yoga poses they performed.
