ZENLIFE BOOK Club in Queen Creek, AZ

We meet online and in person a few times a year to discuss the books that have the power to change our lives. When we read a book, we are not simply turning pages, we are opening our minds to all that is possible.

What we're currently reading...

May/June 2024

In this novel "Siddhartha" a young man, leaves his family for a contemplative life, then restless, discards it for one of the flesh. He conceives a son, but bored and sickened by lust and greed, moves on again. Near despair, Siddhartha comes to a river where he hears a unique sound. This sound signals the true beginning of his life - the beginning of suffering, rejection, peace and, finally, wisdom.

Why does ZenLife have a Book Club in Queen Creek?

At ZenLife Center for Healing, we strongly believe in creating an all inclusive community, and for that to happen, we recognize that not everybody does their “yoga” on a mat performing asana (yoga poses). Some people create their practice through mantra, meditation, conversation, study, breathing, even in the way they choose to conduct their daily activities. The true meaning of Yoga is to join, unite or to yoke. Yoga is a practice that leads a person from individual consciousness to Universal Consciousness. What better way to do that than through reading and sharing what touched or inspired you with others.

Who can be a part of the ZenLife Book Club in Queen Creek?

Anyone can participate in the ZenLife Book Club!  And yes, it’s totally free!

We want all of our winter visitors and those who have to live far from Queen Creek to be a part of the community. This is why the online group is so ideal. The ongoing discussions are held through a Facebook group that anyone can join.

How does the group work?

The ZenLife Book Club reads five books a year geared towards a deeper understanding of who we all are and how we can live our lives with more meaning. We take 2 months to cover each book because we know how busy everyone is and want to allow enough time for people to enjoy and retain the books rather than just rushing to get through them. We do take the months of July and December off to help minimize the hectic activities that tend to follow those times of year.

In addition to the online group discussions, we meet in person 3 times a year for a potluck where the participants can discuss the books they’ve all been reading together and share the impacts those teachings had on their lives. The members of the group are asked to bring their favorite dish or treat to share and the discussion is spirited and lively. This is a great way to be a part of your community in a safe and beautiful way.  The potlucks are usually held at ZenLife Center for Healing and last around 2 hours.

Many famed music producers are known for a particular sound that has its day. Rick Rubin is known for something else: creating a space where artists of all different genres and traditions can home in on who they really are and what they really offer. He has made a practice of helping people transcend their self-imposed expectations in order to reconnect with a state of innocence from which the surprising becomes inevitable. Over the years, as he has thought deeply about where creativity comes from and where it doesn’t, he has learned that being an artist isn’t about your specific output, it’s about your relationship to the world. Creativity has a place in everyone’s life, and everyone can make that place larger.
