If you’ve ever asked yourself, “Is this my intuition or just fear?” you’re not alone.
Most of us were never taught how to trust ourselves. Especially the quiet inner knowing that doesn’t come with a list of pros and cons, just a feeling. And the truth is, it can be hard to tell the difference between fear, trauma, and true intuitive guidance.
This week at ZenLife, we closed our series on intuition with a guided meditation designed to help you separate those threads. You can experience the full practice for yourself:
Intuition or Fear? A Guided Meditation to Help You Discern the Difference
But before you drop in, here’s a reflection from the night—and an invitation to come home to yourself.
There are some people who just know things. They read energy in a room like a book. But for most of us, intuitive clarity doesn’t come naturally. Especially if you’ve lived through trauma.
When you’ve had to be hyper-aware for safety, your body becomes a professional at scanning for danger. That sensitivity can feel intuitive, but it’s often fear or old patterning speaking.
I’ve seen this in my own life, and in countless students and clients over the years. That’s why I always say: you’ve got to learn to separate the parts.
Is this your fear?
Is this your story?
Or is this something deeper that’s quietly guiding you?
In our meditation, we moved through each of the energy centers, landing on the third eye, and then deeper still—into the wisdom center.
This is the place inside you that’s older than your current age. Wiser than your conscious thoughts. And it’s been with you your whole life, whether you knew it or not.
For me, this reawakening started way back in childhood, when I had an imaginary friend who felt as real as anyone. But I learned to shut that part of myself down because it made people uncomfortable.
A lot of us did. Especially men, who are taught not to feel, not to cry, not to trust those inner nudges. But lately I’ve seen more and more people—especially men—walking into ZenLife and saying things like, “I don’t know why I’m here, but I know I need to be.”
That’s intuition. That’s the wisdom center. That’s the real stuff.
These days, I’m more tuned in than ever. Menopause has been one of my greatest teachers. It forced me to slow down. Forced me to listen.
Now, if something excites me, triggers me, or unsettles me, I feel it instantly. My body responds before my mind can catch up. That’s not always comfortable—but it’s honest. And that honesty is gold.
The body always speaks. But most of us have been too busy to hear it.
That’s what meditation gives us: space to listen. Space to come back home.
You don’t have to be psychic. You don’t need special gifts. And you don’t need to get it perfect.
All you need is a willingness to listen—to your body, to your breath, to that quiet place inside that already knows.
Let this be your practice: just start listening a little more.
Your inner wisdom is already talking to you.
Are you ready to hear it?
This meditation was guided by Melissa J. Seil-Butler, founder of ZenLife Center for Healing. If you’re local to the Queen Creek, Arizona area, we invite you to join us in person every Tuesday at 8:15 PM for a community meditation experience. It’s a beautiful way to connect, reset, and return to yourself.
