This Saturday, April 20th, our Hiking Club is meeting at Picketpost Mountain Trail at 7:00am for a challenging yet stunning 4.2 mile trek! Maybe you’ve hiked near here or been to Boyce Thompson Arboretum just down the road. Or if this is new, it’s only a 45 minute drive from ZenLife Center For Healing!
We will meet at the base of the Picketpost Mountain trail next to the Arizona trail. Of course, make sure to bring plenty of water and a snack if needed. Sunblock is strongly encouraged. You can expect about 3 hours total for the hike!
Just south of Superior, this mountain stands alone on the edge of the Sonoran Desert! It’s a mesa peak consisting of 18 million year old lava flows. With many connecting trails and several false summits it can be tricky to find the top. But following the painted arrows, you’ll know you found the true summit when you see a mailbox. It should be filled with notes from other hikers – feel free to leave your own message behind!
At 4,378′ high, the valley and other grand mountain ranges like the Superstitions are visible in the distance. Picketpost mountain is home to a variety of unique wildlife, so don’t be surprised if you see a Kudamundi near the trail!
